What to eat in Phu Quoc?
Phu Quoc annually attracts millions of tourists to visit, not only because of its poetic scenery, charming scenery of blue sea, white sand, golden sunshine but also thanks to the attraction of an inexhaustible culinary style. Along with the richness and diversity, the flavor of the specialties here creates a unique feature of Phu Quoc cuisine that is rarely matched anywhere else.
1/ SEA URCHIN
Sea urchin is a specialty with high nutritional value. After cutting off the outer layer of thorns, washed and cut in half, it can be processed into many dishes: grilled sea urchin, porridge, lemon urchin, and spring rolls. 2/ HAM NINH FLOWER CRAB
It would be a miss opportunity if tourists come to Phu Quoc without enjoying Ham Ninh crabs. Although the crab here is not big, it is very firm, and the meat is fragrant and sweet. Crab is made into many dishes such as steamed crab, fried crab with tamarind, crab with Singapore sauce, ... but the best is still boiled crab eaten with salt, pepper, and lemon, so that you can enjoy the natural sweetness of the crab meat.
3/ GRILLED HORN SCALLOP WITH CHILLED
The name is extremely unique and strange, piquing the curiosity of diner. Bien Mai horn scallop is a triangular scallop, about the size of an adult hand, hidden deep in the seabed. After cleaning, the scallop is marinated with spices and grilled over hot coals. To fully enjoy its delicious taste, diners should only dip it and eat it with basil, lettuce, banana, cucumber, and pineapple. The sweetness of Bien Mai horn scallop mixed with a little taste of salt, and chili creates an ecstatic flavor.
4/PHU QUOC TRAM MUSHROOM
Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this one-of-a-kind melaleuca mushroom, a specialty mushroom of the Pearl Island, only available in the rainy season from April to September. When the first rains of the season fall, it's also the time for mushrooms to grow. Phu Quoc people have harmoniously combined the mushroom with fresh seafood such as squid, shrimp, oysters, etc. to form a delicious, and nutritious dish. You will feel the sweetness of mushrooms, and the aroma of pepper better when used with Phu Quoc signature fish sauce.
5/ HERRING SALAD
Herring salad is one of the most famous specialties in Phu Quoc. Making herring salad is very complicated, choosing fresh, meaty fish to achieve a sweet and fatty taste when eaten. Mix herring with onion, red onion, grated coconut, ... and sour sauce. The harmonious combination of fresh fish meat with ingredients and a dipping sauce made from chili, garlic and roasted peanuts brings a dish full of flavor.
6/ PHU QUOC “QUAY” NOODLES
This is a traditional dish of the people of Phu Quoc. Diners who want to enjoy this dish must wait for 15 - 30 minutes, because this dish is made to order so it takes quite a while. When visitors come here, they will be surprised because this is a self-service restaurant. Diners make their own dipping sauce with spices including salt, sugar, MSG, chili, kumquat.
